Dr. Purgett received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. He completed a surgical internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Parkland Hospital in Dallas. After completion of his surgical training he joined Surgical Associates of the Mid-Cities in 1991.
Dr. Purgett is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Southwestern Surgical Congress. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Baylor Medical Center Grapevine and has previously served that hospital as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff.
Areas of interest in general surgery include endocrine surgery and advanced laparoscopic procedures, including inguinal hernia repair and fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Personally, he is married with three grown children. An enthusiastic fitness advocate, he has completed many marathons, including the Boston Marathon, and has also completed Ironman triathlons.
